Science

The goals and objectives of the science program are to create a wide base of scientific knowledge through personal investigation, scientific experimentation, instruction and research. Students develop an appreciation of the sacredness of all life and a respect for peace and order through the integration of Catholic values into the science curriculum.

Competitions and Awards

Our students continue to excel at the annual Pittsburgh Regional Science and Engineering Fair, as they have won the trophy for Most Awards in the Intermediate Division for the 7th time in the last 8 years.  Since 2006,four of our students were also the recipients of the prestigious Carnegie Award of Excellence (for Best of Show in the Science Fair), and were honored at a banquet at the Carnegie Music Hall.   To see a listing of all of the 2010 - 2011 awards, check the Carnegie Science Center Fair website.

Each year, many of our students are awarded first place in the regional Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science competition, allowing them to travel each year to Pennsylvania State University for the State-wide competition.  This year is no different, with three of our students winning special awards at the regional competition, and ten students advancing to the state competition.

Our students have also enjoyed continued success at the National Engineers Week Future City® Competition, where they present their solution to engineering challenges associated with sustaining a vibrant city at least 150 years in the future.  They have won multiple awards each year of participation including this year’s Most Creative City.

These competitions and learning opportunities are open to all of our seventh and eighth grade students.
